Are you ready?

Want to become one of Australia’s top sporting and PR gurus? It will take time, hard work and ambition but we are here to help you make it happen!

The successful candidate will be an integral member of Sports Communication Australia, working across key clients BMX Australia and Eurosport Australia. There will also be other clients and special projects that arise from time to time to keep you on your toes and inspired.

You will provide written content for clients – which could be anything from a race report to a tweet to a feature article. You will have a strong grasp of social media, with knowledge in website content management systems looked upon favourably.

Moreover, this role is about executing content strategies for our clients. Knowing how to captivate an audience with writing, images and video content will be your bread and butter.

But first, here’s what you’re about

Above all else, we’re looking for someone who is driven and has determination to be the best at what they do.

Our ideal candidate is someone who will take the task at hand and get it done without fuss or the need to be supervised. It’s a person that has the initiative to problem solve and back themselves to improve the way they go about their job. Efficiency is key when working across multiple accounts.

Hard work doesn’t phase you. There will be long days, there will be weekend work – and those two things will often happen at once. So, if you’re style is more ‘do your time and collect a pay check’, this job isn’t for you.

Here are a few other qualities that you possess:

  • An experienced writer, someone who can find a great story and sell it to the toughest audience or the most ardent fans. Content writing, creative flair and copywriting skills essential.
  • You’re comfortable in the digital space. You know the best way to execute a social media strategy and know where your audience is going to be, and when they’re going to be there.
  • Have a passion for all things sport.
  • Web management skills.
  • Understanding of email marketing.
  • Have an understanding of graphic design and can contribute to the production of great marketing collateral.
  • Organised, self-motivated, trustworthy and able to work unsupervised.
  • Undergraduate degree in marketing, journalism, communications or similar preferred
  • You have strong attention to detail, communicate well in a team environment and can manage multiple tasks at once.
  • Prepared to think outside the square and go the extra mile to get the job done right.

Key responsibilities include

  • Working directly with the Managing Director and Senior Account Manager to develop and implement communication strategy for clients
  • Email marketing and website management
  • Build relationships with journalists, media organisations and influencers
  • Act as a media liaison, and manage digital assets
  • Pitch stories to media
  • Act as event media manager for clients when out of office
  • Manage online content for clients
  • Manage social media for clients
  • Find innovative ways to use digital and social media to enhance the reach of clients
  • Regular media reporting for clients

Some finer details about the role

You’re going to be busy.

When you’re not in the office, this role will see you on the road regularly throughout 2018 as you join the team covering the 2018 BMX Australia National Series and National Championships. In between the domestic racing, there will be the odd late night and early morning following the progress of Australia’s international superstars as they compete across the world.

In this role, there isn’t always a ‘leave it to the morning’ option. News is a 24-hour cycle and the opportunity to get your client great coverage will come and go before you know it.

Over time you will build great relationships with Australia’s best journalists and media professionals. Play your cards right (we’ll tell you how to do it), and you’ll become a trusted go-to person in the industry, who has the right information and can provide that image being sought.

But don’t worry about being everything to everyone at once. We’ll help you turn into the big-time performer that you already know you have the potential to be.
